I’m an independent fire door inspector. When you use my enquiry form or email or call me, your message comes straight to my inbox so I can reply — I don’t store your details in a database, and I never sell them or use them for marketing. The one optional extra is Google Analytics, which only runs if you accept the cookie banner; decline and everything still works. The detail is below.
Who I am
This website, firedoorchecks.co.uk, is run by Fire Door Checks, an independent fire door inspection service based in Devon (referred to below as “I”, “me” and “my”). I am the “data controller” for the personal information described in this policy — which simply means I’m the person responsible for looking after it.
If you have any questions about this policy or your information, contact me:
- Email: info@firedoorchecks.co.uk
- Phone: 07751 251425
What information I collect
I only collect what you choose to send me when you get in touch. Through the quote form, or if you email or call me, that is typically:
- Your name
- Your email address and/or phone number
- Details about your building and enquiry — such as the type of building, roughly how many doors, your area, and anything you write in the message box
I don’t ask for, or want, any sensitive personal information through this website. Please don’t send more than you need to — a name and a way to reach you is plenty to get started.
How I collect it
There’s only one way your information reaches me: you send it to me. The quote form on this site doesn’t save anything to a database or a third-party form service — when you submit it, it simply sends your message to my email inbox, exactly like you’d sent an email yourself. You can also reach me directly by email or phone, and that’s treated the same way.
Why I use your information, and my lawful basis
Because you’ve contacted me to ask about or arrange an inspection, I use your details to:
- Reply to your enquiry and answer your questions
- Prepare a quote and arrange a visit
- Carry out the inspection and keep the records that go with it
In data protection terms, my lawful bases are: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (replying and quoting); performing that contract if you go ahead; my legitimate interests in running and keeping records of my business; and, where it applies, my legal obligations around fire safety record-keeping. I don’t use your details for marketing, and I won’t send you unrelated promotional emails.
Cookies and analytics
This website uses one optional analytics tool — Google Analytics 4 — and nothing else. It is switched off by default. The first time you visit, a small banner asks whether you’re happy for it to run:
- If you choose Decline, no analytics cookies are set, nothing about your visit is tracked, and the site works exactly the same.
- If you choose Accept, Google Analytics helps me see how many people visit, which pages are useful, roughly which area visitors come from, and whether people call or send an enquiry — so I can improve the site.
Analytics only ever sees anonymous usage information. It does not receive your name, email address, phone number or anything you type into the enquiry form. Google acts as my processor for this, and may process the data on servers outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.
You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser. Google also offers an opt-out browser add-on.
Who I share it with
I keep your information to myself. I do not sell, rent or trade it, and I don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing. Two service providers help me run things: my email provider (Amazon Web Services), who handle the delivery and storage of my email; and, only if you accept analytics, Google, who provide the website analytics described above. Neither is given your enquiry details for their own purposes. I would only ever disclose your information if I were legally required to — for example, in response to a valid legal request.
How long I keep it
I keep enquiry emails for as long as I need them to deal with your enquiry and to keep sensible business records. As a guide, that’s up to 24 months after our last contact, after which I delete them — unless I need to keep something longer for a genuine legal or business reason, such as records relating to an inspection I’ve actually carried out for you. You can ask me to delete your details sooner at any time (see your rights, below).
How I protect it
I take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, including protecting access to my email and devices. No method of sending information over the internet is ever completely secure, but I only hold what I need and for no longer than necessary.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal information I hold about you
- Ask me to correct anything that’s wrong
- Ask me to delete it, or to restrict or object to how I use it
- Ask for a copy of what you gave me, to reuse elsewhere
To exercise any of these, just email me at info@firedoorchecks.co.uk. I’ll respond within one month, and it’s free.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children’s privacy
My service is for building owners, landlords, managing agents and businesses. It isn’t aimed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect information about them.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time — for example, if the way I work changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. Any changes apply from the moment they’re published here.
